I’ve played the piano since I was 4 years old. I was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida, and took classical lessons until I moved away for college. In Tallahassee, I studied under Aide Whitaker and Dr. Margaret Pendleton. I moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane University (to study Civil Engineering), but I ended up continuing classical training. For 2 semesters, I was lucky enough to study with Faina Lushtak, one of the greatest pianists on this earth. We hit it off, and spent more time “jamming” on 2 pianos (N.O style blues) than working on classical pieces. Of course, she would give me mind-boggling tasks… to play pieces that required 14 fingers… luckily I have… oh wait, only 10. That Faina, she’s a tricky one! :) When I moved to New Orleans, I fell in love with jazz. I am heavily influenced by the styles of Harry Connick Jr and Marcus Roberts. But I have to admit, my true love is Chopin. There’s nothing like listening to a romantic nocturne during a lightning storm, late at night. I know, sounds really sappy, but I guess I’m a romantic at heart. But back to the jazz…. hope you like what you hear.
